These are our top tips to save you time, effort and maximise results. Send us your suggestions, so we can continue to evolve this list :)
1). Strain your primer!
My favourite primer is Badger's Stynylrez, it has a smooth consistent coat every time, and self-levels if you put a little too much on. But one drawback can be short airbrushing sessions. This is from primer drying inside the bottle, then getting dislodged during vigorous shaking. Use a tea strainer and you'll see the difference, and you can prime forever now :)
2). Optimal thinner ratios and pressure don't exist! Often on Youtube tutorials you will get advice on thinner ratio and pressure (psi), but that is really also based on the airbrush size nedle size and what you are trying to acheive (large area base coat or up close detail). Thinning and pressure are like a see-saw, when one goes up the other should come down ie. high thinning/low pressure (for close up detail) or low thinning/high pressure (for larger spray priming or base coating.
3). No paint comes out, assuming you have a clean airbrush and no clogs this is telling you the paint is too thick (increase thinning) or pressure is too low (increase pressure).
4). Spiderlegs, this is telling you the paint is too thin (reduce thinning by adding paint) or pressure is too high (reduce pressure).
5). When you clean your airbrush, loosen the needle, then push it in/out while you have water flowing into the cup. This will reduce any paint on the needle, before you pull it back through the airbrush body.
